The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has organized a three-day workshop for the development of ‘A Guide for teaching; using STEM and Play-Based Learning (PBL) Approaches’.
This project is being undertaken with support from Right-to-Play International.
This program aims to help create a conducive atmosphere, strategy, and environment that is needed by teachers to improve the acquisition of creative and innovative skills among the learners.
Speaking to the workshop’s participants, Dr. Edward Appiah, Acting Director-General for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, thanked them for readily availing themselves of this all-important national exercise. The learning guide is to establish an integrated approach that aligns the STEM concept to the Standard-Based Curriculum (SBC) and Common Core Programme (CCP)- which is being implemented in the country’s school system.
He further emphasised a co-creation of an appropriate ecosystem that promotes key learners’ competencies and skills and also entrenches education as a life-long activity. Also, he reiterated a point that the learning guide would create the right strategy, atmosphere and creative attitudes required by the facilitators(teachers)- to enable the skills of innovation, creativity and problem-solving in learners. The STEM learning guide is also in line with policy objectives as contained in the National Pre-Tertiary Education Curriculum Framework (NPTECF).
