All deduction on teachers professional allowance was authorized by GES – CAGD

The management of the Controller and Accountant General Department has clarified that the deduction that was effected on teachers’ professional allowance for 2021 years was authorized by the management of the Ghana Education Service.

According to the Controller and Accountant General Department, their attention has been drawn to the publication that there is sad news for Teachers has Controller and Accountant General Department effect controversial deduction on teachers November 2021 salaries.

The statement said the found that publication worrying as the attention of the Controller and Accountant General Department was not sought for clarification before the said publication.

The controller clarifies that all third parties deduction on an employee’s salary is an agreement between the employee and the institution. They explained that the management of the Ghana Education Service officially wrote to the Controller and Accountant General Department asking them to deduct 30% cost of the supply of laptops to teachers under the one teacher one laptop initiative. This amounted to GH¢509.55 and the rest of the amount will be borne by the government.

Controller further explained that Ghana Education Service also wrote asking them to deduct an amount of GH¢100 as teacher license fee.

CAGD stated that all these deductions were affected as a result of the letter received which was according to the letter was an agreement between GES and the various Teacher unions.

Controller and Accountant General Department clearly stated that they can’t unilaterally effect deduction of an employee salary without the necessary authorization. They further explained that CAGD will always make sure an employee is paid what is due to them.
