Another strike looming: TUC and organized Labour to end the unequal pay system for public sector workers

The Trade union Congress and other Organized Labour Unions are determined to end the unequal pay system between public sector workers paid on the Single spine salary structure and the Article 71 Office holders.

According to the Secretary General of the Trade union Congress, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah said there is discrepancies in the pay system of public sector workers and effort are underway to make sure that the “class system” in pay administration in favour of Article 71 Office holders is ended.

Speaking to the media on Monday 18th July 2022, Dr. Baah explained that TUC and the other Organized Labour Unions are keenly monitoring the review of the single spine salary structure that is currently underway. TUC and other Organized Labour Unions are determined to end the unfairness in the remuneration of public sector workers.

“We have our eyes and minds firmly fix on the outcome of the review of the single spine salary structure that is currently underway,” he said

According to him, the unfair remuneration in the public sector needs to end now. He noted that last 3 years government promised to establish labour law that will protect Ghanaian workers and end the unfair remuneration of the Article 71 Office holders but this has remained an issue.
