The management of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment NaCCA has indicated that the new curriculum for Junior High School 1 to 3 usually called Common Core program CCP will be introduced progressively beginning next academic year.
This program was slated to begin this academic year as scheduled but base on management consultation with other stakeholders and also because of the implementers of this new curriculum, that is the teachers are not trained on the new CCP. Management has decided to begin this program progressively from the next academic year.
According to stakeholders, this decision will allow management to trained teachers properly and also it will ensure that the needed materials for the proper implementation of this program are made available before it can be implemented.
Taking the primary school curriculum that has been implemented two years ago, for instance, most teachers are still complaining about the failure of the Government and the Ghana Education Service to provide Teachers with the needed materials for the proper implementation of this new curriculum.
According to NaCCA, this CCP is a three-year program design for JHS1-JHS 3 and it is also to equip learners with the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies for academic progression and the world of work.
