According to the three major teacher unions, in their last meeting with GES, they noted that there was an agreement that every promotion in the Ghana Education Service should be based on merits and the scheme of the service.

The unions also noted that a person’s claim of Promotions account shall be taken of qualification, efficiency, seniority, experience, and general good behavior and were relevant as enjoins by the collective agreement.

Unfortunately on the part of Teachers, the availability of vacancies is the only determinant of the Promotion of teachers to directors I & II.

This according to the management of the Teacher unions is creating unbearable frustration, dissatisfaction, and irreparable damage to the progression of staff in the Service.

Management of the three major teacher unions, therefore, wants moving forward Promotions of teachers to the Rank of Director I & II not to be based on vacancies but as in the other senior ranks teachers who qualify should be placed on the rightful scale while there are in the classroom
