Students and their staff recently returned back to school after a 10 month long stay in the house due to the outbreak of the pandemic in Ghana. In a press briefing in Accra, the Director General of Ghana health services, Dr. Kuma- Aboakye gave updates on the virus cases in schools.
He stated that a total of 142 positive cases have so far been recorded in schools in four regions in Ghana. 56 cases has been recorded in 23 schools in the Greater Accra region, 82 cases in Eastern region comprising 73 students and 9 teachers, upper west region recorded three cases and western region recorded only a case.
He stated that those students are receiving treatment in an isolation centers, with no death so far. He added that this cases are both in the basic and senior high schools in Ghana.
Four 4 positive cases has been recorded in the presbyterian boys senior high school ( PRESEC), Legon in the La Nkwartanang district, 13 positive cases has been recorded in West Africa senior high school (WASS), and Wesley Grammar school recorded ones.
Five 5 positive cases has been recorded in the Odorko cluster of schools, Achimota senior high school recorded 6 positive cases, Achimota basic school recorded 8 positive cases, 6 positive cases in New page preparatory school, 2 positive cases in Accra technical institute, Dzowolu Jhs recorded one positive cases.
Roman Ridge school recorded one positive cases, Saint Elizabeth schools recorded three positive cases. He encourage teachers and their students to observe the safety protocols in order to help prevent the spread of the virus.
