GES to work on Teachers promotion from SSII to SSI immediately – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

The Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has disclosed that Teachers’ promotion from senior superintendent II to Senior Superintendent I (junior ranks) will be worked on immediately by the management of the Ghana Education Service.

During the Kokrokoo interview at peace FM, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said the promotion of teachers at the senior ranks is based on the Examination of which any teacher who applies and writes the exam and has a pass mark is put on the right scale without delay. While teachers which are due for a promotion at the lower ranks is been supervised within the district level.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum further explained that he was secretly added to one teacher’s platform(name withheld) which most of the group members didn’t know he is part of that group chat. He said he has realized that majority of the teachers have been complaining about promotion at the junior ranks (promotion from SSII to SSI).

The minister noted that his investigation at the Ghana Education Service has revealed that most of them have not been promoted for four to five years now. He further explained that one day he was droved through the Ghana Education Service headquarters and met 10 Teachers and his interaction with them revealed that a particular Religion has not promoted their teachers for four years now meanwhile such teachers have worked and need to be paid.

Dr. Adutwum stated that upon realizing teachers have not been promoted for four years now under the junior ranks, he said he has directed Dr. Ocansy at the Ghana Education Service to work into that issue and ensure that all teachers who have not been promoted be promoted immediately.

The minister said a hungry teacher can never deliver effectively and if a teacher is due for promotion and you delay to promote that teacher is rather the government that suffers because one day the government will have to pay that money to the teacher meanwhile the time the teacher was supposed to be paid to make him or her happy to work hard for the government has not been done.

“The management of the Ghana Education Service will work on this to ensure every teacher is promoted immediately,” Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said.
