Ghana basic schools to return to the O-level and A-level system – Dr. Adutwum

The Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has disclosed his intention to return Ghana’s public senior high schools to O-Level and A-level Educational standards.

Speaking on Garden city radio, a private radio station in Kumasi, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that his Ministry and the government are looking at lifting the standard of public junior high schools which will enable students to enter into senior high school already know what the about to do.

He said the structures of public basic schools are not up to standard and this 2022 budget is looking at building quality standard junior high schools which will be equipped with laboratory and other STEM-related structures. He cited some of the junior high structures at Dadiaso, Juaben, and other places as some of the standard JHS that is under construction.

Discussion about STEM Education in senior high schools, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said “going back to O-level and A-level is the go standard for quality Education”. When the host emphasis on returning the Educational system to the O-level and A-level system, the minister said that is his intention for Ghana’s public education shortly.

He further explained that the kind of quality junior high schools you have will enable you to run O-level and A-level in senior high schools. According to him O-level and A-level systems in Ghana will save the universities some money. This is because before a student will complete senior high school he or she is already equipped with what he or she is going to do at the university level. So Ghana Education returning to the O-level and A-level system is the best way to go, he said

He compares the way advanced countries run their Educational system to the standard JHS his government is bringing on board. He added that the government is looking at raising village students to compete with the rich children in towns and cities.
