The pro-vice-chancellor of the university of cape coast (UCC) Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh has called on the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to sit down with the employer to address the challenges of Teachers in the country.

Speaking at the second quadrennial delegates conference of GNAT in the Central Region on Wednesday, the pro-vice Chancellor of UCC said there are many issues affecting Teachers and the association now. Professor Dora added that she knew it before coming to the conference and the Central Region Chairman of GNAT has also said it, that teachers who have gone for further studies have completed and having their certificate but have been denied upgrading by Ghana Education service.

She explained that it is worrisome to still hear that teachers who have pursued further studies have not been upgraded promptly. She said it is unbelievable to still hear that someone will use his or her own money and go for further studies but come back and be denied upgrading.

The Assin South chairman of GNAT and a member of the National Council of GNAT, Rockson Bukari said Teachers have been treated unfairly in this country. He complained that some teachers have completed their further studies but have been asked by GES to wait for 7years before they will be allowed to upgrade.

The Association called on the government to fix the Education service now to save it from further collapse.
