Headteachers must be in school despite the strike, they receive allowance – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

The Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has made it clear that headteachers of basic schools must stay at school despite the strike action by teacher unions to demand the cost of living allowance (COLA)

During an exclusive interview on Pure Fm on Saturday 9th July 2022, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum made it clear although teachers are on strike but headteachers cannot lock down the school and leave because they received some allowance as headteachers.

“Because they received something as headteachers they must stay in school even if the teachers are not around. You can’t just lock down the school and put the key in your pocket and as headteacher” he said

Minister of Education’s statement line with the Ghana Education Service management statement on 5th July 2022 that despite the industrial action declared by teacher unions headteachers must go to school and welcome students who report.

But the position of the teacher unions in Education is that headteachers must stay away from all their duties.
