Management of Ghana Education Service has indicated that they have noticed that some teachers and their heads are charging illegal fees to final year students who are about to graduate in the pre-tertiary schools.
According to GES, they have received a lot of complaints from parents about School authorities charging PTA dues and other charges as part of students’ final clearance system and if any head is found they will not hesitate to interdict such teachers with immediate effect.
Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to state categorically clear that no Teacher is allowed to levy any students’ PTA dues as part of their final year clearance system.
School authorities are only by rule allow to charge students who misplaced, damage, or deface school property. The levy is base on management approval that is sent to the respective Regional Directorate as described.
Heads of school are hereby directed to desist from collecting any illegal or unauthorized charges in the name of the final year clearance system. Any teacher who disobeys this directive will be sanctioned.
In a letter signed by Prof. Opoku Amankwa the Director-General of Ghana Education Service and intercepted by Educegh.com, Regional Directors are to interdict teacher who is involved in the illegal collection of fees and conduct a full investigation into the matter and submit the report to the Director-General of GES.
