It is unacceptable for a teacher to be distracted during lesson delivery – Dr. Adutwum

The Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has stated that teachers are not to be distracted during teaching by what means either by students or parents.

Speaking on Tuesday 23rd November 2021 at Hello Fm, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that the Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education will begin to deal with students who misbehave in schools with their teachers.

Discussing discipline code in schools, the Honourable Minister was asked by the host about current misbehaviors of senior high school and junior high school children after finishing their final year papers start to destroy school properties all in the name of ‘apoo’. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum reply that his attention has been drawn to the fact that some teachers have been threatened to be beaten by their students all because the teachers have not allowed them to copy. He said is unacceptable for students to distract the attention of his or her teacher. Any students who are found misbehaving with a teacher will be dealt with. “How there you insult someone who is teaching you,” he said.

He added that his outfit with the Ghana Education Service is looking at implementing a new discipline code in basic and senior high schools so that any students found misbehaving in schools will face the full rigors of the discipline code.

Meanwhile the leadership of the National Council of Ghana National Association of Teachers on 16th November 2021 expressed their unhappiness about the threat of students and parents on teachers in recent time. The National Council therefore called for the protection of teachers against assault.
