At the beginning of this year government in collaboration with the three major teacher unions Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), a coalition of concern Teachers Ghana (CCTGH) promise to provide Teachers with laptops to facilitate in teaching and learning process.
According to the Government, one Teacher one laptops was one of the initiatives to digitize the resources needed by Teachers to facilitate in teaching and learning process. Most of the Teacher unions called the initiative of the Government to give laptops to teachers a step in the right direction because it will have help reduce the tedious work of Teachers.
Our checks have revealed that this was one of the agenda of the National executive meeting with the Ghana Education service in January 2021. They aimed was to distribute these laptops to Teachers before the end of the year.
Later it was revealed that these laptops will be sent to Regional and District Education offices starting from 3 May 2021 for onward distribution to teachers. Our checks in most Regional and District offices have revealed that no single laptops meant for Teachers have been sent to Regional and District Education offices as of May 28, 2021.
Some Teacher unions starting kicking against these proposed laptops because they were having the feeling that the price of the laptops have been inflated and hence they called for an investigation into the procurement of these laptops by CHRAJ.
