National Labour conference has concluded that Single spine pay policy should be reviewed

The National Labour conference that was held at Rocky City Hotel at Kwahu in the Eastern Region with the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has the guest Speaker has concluded their meeting with the decision that the Single spine salary structure should be reviewed.

This Single spine salary structure policy that was introduced by the then President Prof. Atta Mills in 2010 is set to be reviewed this year after its inception.

At the end of the two days of, the Labour conference meeting the participants agreed that the single spine salary structure should be reviewed to address the current issues of salaries inequalities/inequities, weak salary administration, poor condition of service of workers.

The government is asked to set a constitute a committee by the end of March 2022 to undertake a preliminary review of the single spine salary structure including cost implications and advise the Government on how to address those challenges.

The review is to be in alignment with the next budget cycle and the government is expected to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the reviewed policy.

The president of the Republic of Ghana during the conference also hinted to workers that the policy need to be reviewed.

“Having operated with the [Single Spine Pay] Policy since its inception in 2010, it is time to institute this review,” the president told workers.

The group is expected to review both public and private sector workers’ pay policies not only in Ghana alone but to make informed recommendations from across the globe for its implementation.

Productivity is to be taken into consideration in the determination of remuneration of employees’ work done.
