The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relation has disclosed that the various Teacher unions GNAT, NAGRAT CCTGH, and TEWU has been invited for a negotiation of the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
According to the Ministry, only the leadership of GNAT has responded to the invitation but the remaining teacher unions NAGRAT, CCTGH, and TEWU have not shown up to the meeting.
It said once one of the unions was ready for the meeting it has to be held and added that the government was not insensitive to the conditions of Teachers and workers in general.
Mr. Wireko Brobey said the Ministry has received letters from GNAT, NAGRAT CCTGH, and TEWU that things were hard and hence the demand for COLA and the ministry did not renege on that
Mr. Wireko Brobey explained further that the Minister asked him to invite the union leaders so that the matter could be solved but two weeks down the line the ministry did not get the leadership of the Teacher Unions.
He said the ministry is considering looking at the single spine policy that has been in practice for decades now to see whether it is still relevant or if there is a need for possible review.
