Private Education Coalition (PEC) has asked the Director-General of Ghana Education Service Prof. Opoku Amankwa to retract immediately his unconstitutional statement made on Asempa FM that 90% of places in public schools ought to be reserved for public schools pupils.
During the week the Director-General of Ghana Education Service Prof Opoku Amankwa spoke on Asempa FM about SHS placement and the processes made so far. The Director-General on the same platform stated that private junior high school pupils will have to take the Entrance Examination for Senior High school after BECE.
This statement from the Director General did not go down well with the Private Education Coalition PEC. They describe the statement from Director General as extremely concerning and inflammatory and hence the need for Director-General of Ghana Education Service Prof Opoku Amankwa to as a matter of urgency retract that statement with immediate effect.
PEC also demands further explanation on the statement that private JHS pupils will have to take the entrance examination for senior high school education.
Background
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) last week accused the West Africa Examination Council WAEC of being discriminatory in terms of marking of BECE examination of private schools candidates. They accused WAEC of intentionally marking down private schools candidates in other to allow public schools candidates to get a better placement at the senior high school.
But the public Relations Officer of WAEC Madam Agnes Teye- Cudjoe dismissed the claim and asked the Ghana National Council of Private Schools GNACOPS to back their allegations with evidence. She stated that their allegations are unfounded and to be backed by evidence.
