Reasons why there should be a law binding all GES officeholders to send their kids to public schools

There should be an amendment in the constitution of Ghana binding all Ministers of Education and All Education Directors from Director General of education to District Directors of education to send their children to public schools in the country.

Management of public schools in the country is as porous as it is because the managers don’t care whatever happens to other people’s children attending those public schools. From the Director-General of Ghana Education Service to District Directors of education none of them will allow their children to attend the public schools in which they are managers.

It is annoying to see leaders of education seating in their office and speaking in the media as if everything is well in our schools meanwhile things are not well. How many of the Directors of education will allow their children to sit on the floor to write, how many of them will allow their children to go to a school that sits under a tree to attend lessons? How many of the Directors of education will allow their children to go to a school that does not have a textbook? All this is happening to other people’s children as we speak now in some schools in the country.

Why is it that all GES office holders, their children are attending private schools in the country? Because they know very well that private schools have better learning environments. There is no single individual who will be managing a private school and will prefer to send his or her children to another private individual school. All his or her children will have to attend the school he/she is operating.

This is different when it comes to Ghana Education Service, the Director-General will not allow his children to attend public Basic School, the Regional Director will not allow the children to attend public school, the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Director will not allow their children to attend public school why because they know very well that public Basic schools are not managed effectively. All they know is to intimidate Teachers for speaking the truth on social media. The truth is that most of these Directors of Education are also double as leaders in some churches.

In Rwanda private schools have closed down because they can’t compete with the public schools.

All these problems can only be resolved if there is a constitution that Ministers of Education and All Ghana Education Directors will be forced to send their kids to public basic schools in the country.
