Reinstatement of Teachers returning from further studies has been a major challenge in the Ghana Education Service where the majority of these teachers get their appointment terminated by the Ghana Education Service immediately they go to do further studies.

In-service teachers going for further studies now has been a major headache to the majority of teachers who wish to go and do their masters because after further studies one will have to spend time and money traveling here and there to get their appointment. The management of Ghana Education does not give Teachers studies leave with pay for master’s degrees.

This is indeed affecting teachers from upgrading their skills and modern pedagogies to improve teaching and learning in the classroom. The sad thing is that after teachers use their hard earn money to further their studies when they return they have to struggle with GES for employment.

The question is what is indeed disqualifying these teachers from returning to the classroom to impact knowledge?

The management of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) recently pleaded with the Ghana Education Service to begin offering study leave to teachers who want to do their masters.

Speaking on Peace FM radio on Monday, 7th February 2022, the Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said at times it is good to give those returning from master’s degrees studies to impact what they have learned on their learners.

A woman send a message on that very day that the minister was on the radio and narrated her ordeal that she was teaching at a basic level and later had the opportunity to do her masters in China after returning from further studies her appointment was terminated by GES but Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum on the same platform requested for her details and promise that the will work on it to ensure that teachers with the same problem will get a solution to their problem.
