There is a school of thought who are of the view that canning as a form of corporal punishment is the way to reshape our children in schools and others are of the view that canning is not the only form of punishment that can be used to correct a student who disrespects or misbehave in school. Our source has revealed some forms of punishment that can be used in our schools rather than the old way of inflicting pain on our learners.
Forms of non-corporal punishment
One way to punish your students rather than the cane is detention. Teachers can detain their students who misbehave in school by asking them to stay at a place for some time, for instance, refusing to allow them to go for a break or partaking in a certain activity that he or she likes doing it. Because canning is not the only punishment that can correct the wrongs of our children in our schools. Canning only inflicts pain in your children and let them dislike you and the subject you teach.
If you find out that the detention is not working properly as you wish you can counsel your students who continuously misbehave in your class. Some of them need counseling to help them understand that what they are doing is not the right way and the school does not tolerate that. When you continue to use the cane as a means of correcting learners’ wrongs, you scare them and some of them become confused whenever they see you in class.
The suspension is another way of punishing your students in school. When you weigh the crime of a student and realized that he or she deserves not to be in school you can suspend that child. This kind of punishment can be in two ways, it can either be definite or indefinite one and this can serve as a deterrent to others. It is always good to employ other forms of punishment rather than the regular beating of your students.
Expulsion is the last resort to punishment. When student misbehavior is in such that he or she does not deserve to be in school then the school authorities can expel that student from the school.
