Students over the years in tertiary institution in Ghana has been complaining about the meager fund the get from students loan trust fund to support their Education in Ghana. Because they money this tertiary students get from the students loan trust fund is not enough to cater for their school fees in the school neither to talk about helping them to cater for their personal needs in the school.

On Thursday, 11th of February 2021 in parliament during the vetting of the Education Minister-designate, Honorable Mahama Ayariga, the Bakwu central member of parliament made a revelation that the money students loan trust fund get in recent years passed from the Get-fund to support students who applied for the student’s loan trust fund is not enough.

The honorable member of parliament for the Bakwu central stated that last year alone about 150000 students applied for loan support from the student loan trust fund but the money that was made available to the fund was only 26 million Ghana cedis.

The honorable member stated that if you divide this figure by the total number of students who applied for the loan each student will not be able to get 30% of the amount they applied for from the trust fund. So the Bakwu central member parliament, Mahama Ayariga wants the minister-designate to convince the students what he can do if given the office to ensure that this problem is solved.

The minister designates Dr. Yaw Adutwum responded that the student’s loan trust fund has a lot of funding and one of them is the repayment of the fund, Dr. Yaw said that most of the people who picked the loan in years gone by do not pay early and that has resulted in that but if given the office he will ensure that more funds are made available to the trust fund to support our student’s education.
