The leadership of the All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG) has disclosed their intention to petition international bodies against one teacher one laptop initiative and Labour disrespect of Teachers in Ghana.
The management of the Ghana Education Service issued a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Education, Mr. Anthony Boateng that teachers are to prepare to attend a 3-4 days virtual training workshop on the one teacher one laptop initiative starting from 16th February 2022. According to the management of GES, all teachers who took part in this virtual training will be given a certificate and CPD points for their license renewal.
The leadership of the All Teachers Alliance Ghana said they find this call by the Ghana Education Service uncalled for as the employer (GES) is aimed at subjecting teachers to ridicule, Labour unrape, and unsubstantiated action.
According to them, there was a memorandum of understanding between the parties involved in the procurement of the laptops of which teachers were made to pay GH¢300 as part of the cost in the training of Teachers on e-learning resources that will be made available on the one teacher one laptop.
This training was supposed to be organized in a specific location agreed by teachers for one month according to the memorandum of understanding. But the saddened u-turn by the Ghana Education Service according to ATAG has shown that GES does not respect teachers and it is bent on disgracing teachers.
They also complained that the majority of teachers have not yet received this one teacher one laptop and more to the point there is poor network connectivity in the country. How do teachers participate in this important workshop when they have already paid for the physical training of this workshop.
Due to this leadership of ATAG said they are going to petition the government and other international bodies to ensure that labour disrespect of Teachers is discontinued in this country.
