Teacher unions threatened industrial action over (GESOPS) indebtedness. Check the details.

The Ghana Education Service Occupational Pension Scheme (GESOPS) is a Tier-2 pension scheme registered and regulated by the National Pensions Regulatory Authority under the Pensions Act, 2008, (Act 766) as amended.

The Scheme’s membership is drawn from employees of the Ghana Education Service, with members belonging to one of the Unions in the educational sector.

These gesops according to various teacher unions are in indebts and these teacher unions are pursuing this matter. The various unions have issued a notice threatening controller and accountant general department that if this money is not paid in their account, they won’t be able to restraint their workers, and CAGD should have themselves to be blamed.

“Consequently, we here by serve this notice that if by the close of work Friday February 26th the full amount indebted to our scheme is not not paid we cannot restraint our members and what ever happen in the industrial environment the CAGD should blame itself.” The unions said

The various teacher unions entreat the media to circulate the news to the the general public and as the have trust in the media that the can do their wish.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the press, this is what we want you to convey wider to the Ghanaian public through your print and electronic outlet as well as airwaves to let them know our plight and we trust you will do just that!” The various teacher unions said.

GESOPS is managed by a Board of Trustees with representation from relevant institutions such as the Ministries of Education, Finance, the Attorney General’s Department, the various Unions, and an Independent Trustee. Like all Tier-2 Pension Schemes, GESOPS receives five (5) out of the 18.5% monthly social security contributions made on workers’ behalf.
