The leadership of the three major teacher unions (Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT, National Association of Graduate Teachers NAGRAT, and Coalition of Concern Teachers Ghana CCTGH) is set to declare an indefinite strike on 5th July 2022.
The Current development of the three major teacher unions is a result of the government’s failure to meet their demand on the payment of Cost of Living Allowance COLA. The leadership of unions was expecting the payment of COLA in June 2022 salaries payment but the validation voucher for June 2022 shows otherwise hence the call for a strike by teachers.
NEC held a meeting on the 17th of June 2022 and the outcome of the meeting was that the Regional Chairmen were to organize a press conference and press the government to respond on the COLA allowance or else they advised themselves.
“On 5th July 2022, there will be a joint press conference by the teacher unions to declare strike action should government fail to meet our demand”. NEC stated.
In the meeting it was made clear that all the district representatives are to ensure that every member of NEC takes part in the strike action over COLA .
