Teacher unions to strike over salary issues

The leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has threatened strike action should government fail to restore the names of teachers that have been taken off from the payroll.

According to the president of NAGRAT Mr. Angel Carbonu, the reason given by the management of the Ghana Education Service for deletion of such teachers’ names from payroll is funny, and hence the need for such Teachers’ names to be restored.

Speaking to Journalist on Thursday 17th February 2022, Angel Carbonu said some teachers have gone four to six months without salary and this is causing psychological problems to these teachers.

“The reason for some of this deletion is flimsy and the pressure of going through the prescription of the code of conduct is usually violated. we have teachers who have done without salaries for three months, six months and we even have a case from a secondary technical school teacher, who has gone without salaries for the past fifteen months,” NAGRAT president said

The National Association of Graduate Teachers NAGRAT, therefore, called on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to immediately restore these Teachers’ names on the payroll or resort to strike action.

Angel Carbonu further explained that there are a lot of issues in Ghana Education Service and teachers are facing many problems in the system but they all pretend as if there are no issues.
