Teachers are allowed to partake in the 2021 population census- GES

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform all Regional Directors of
Education to take note and to communicate same to staff the urgency of teachers’ importance in the
2021 population census.

The Director-General of Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah has advised
Directors of Education to allow teachers to partake in the Ghana Population Census Program.

This was discussed in a meeting held in Accra on Friday, 30th April 2021 after the Ghana Statistical
service had released the list of enumerators.

The Director-General explained that some teachers do abandon contact hours to carry out research
works, which affects student performance in both the Senior High Schools and Basic Level but
condemned such allegations saying. “The above is untrue about his people”

He stressed that teachers can go to school and sign., give assignments and leave after some hours
to undertake such an important program.

The Director-General reiterated that, it is about time teachers become smart and use their time

wisely as their salary is nothing to write home about

Ghana Statistical Service is yet to undertake another population census 10 years after taking one in

  1. This is to provide data for decision-making. It was projected/estimated to be 30million in 2020.

“All shortlisted teachers should be smart enough to act accordingly as Ghana needs highly
knowledgeable officials to embark on such an important public assignment,” he added.

Teachers are, therefore, allowed to proceed with the Statistical Service for the 2021 CENSUS!
