Teachers have tamed students, assertive curriculum is needed – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

The minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has advocated that Schools in Ghana need a kind of curriculum he called an assertive curriculum. He believes teachers have tamed students to write what is taught on the day of the exam.

According to the minister, if this kind of curriculum is implemented in African countries, students will become innovative and critical thinkers.

He noted that during his visit to various Schools in the country after his speech, no students asked a question and he is yet to encounter a student in any School who will ask him a question. He said students have been tamed to just do what their teachers asked them to do.

“We have tamed students, we just want them to write what we taught them on the day of the exam and we say to them you are the best students the country has ever known.” He noted

The minister further noted that that kind of Education is not going to transform Ghana, that kind of Education will not bring the country the kind of critical thinkers the country ever needs.

He further explained that in this 21st century a person can not memories his way out of poverty but you can become creative and innovate your way out of poverty.
