Teachers in rural areas to enjoy incentives and motivation – Dr. Adutwum

The Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has disclosed that Teachers who will accept to stay in rural areas in the country will start to receive incentives and motivation to enable them to stay

Speaking on Kumasi-based Radio and Wontumi TV, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that his outfit will ensure that there is an introduction of Incentives for Rural Teachers and those Teaching in remote areas.

He said the problem in Ghana’s public Basic schools is not the lack of teachers but the deployment of teachers effectively in all public basic schools in the country.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that Ghana has more teachers than all Africa countries but the inability of the nation to effectively distribute the teachers is our major problem as a country. He cited a situation that there are some public basic schools in the country that when you visit you see only two or three teachers handling kindergarten to JHS 3.

The minister indicated that one teacher in one classroom is what Ghana is practicing. But there are some schools in towns and cities that a particular classroom is occupying as many as three teachers.

He said the management of the Ghana Education Service has been tasked to ensure that teachers are effectively deployed to the rural areas in the country if possible consider the adoption of Technology.

The minister further explained that for teachers to enjoy working in the rural areas, there will be Rural Incentives Teachers Programmes for teachers in deplorable areas. The minister said fast track Promotion, the building of teachers’ quarters, and sponsoring of teachers to attend distance education are some of the incentives that will be implemented.
