The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has asked the teacher unions in Education to Teachers must demand 100% increments of salaries and must be more serious this time around. If they call off this strike unsettle most Ghanaians will keep mute in teachers’ matters again. .
Mr. William Boadi the Chief Executive Officer of the Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has shown his dissatisfaction with what the teacher unions have demanded from the government looking at the vast effort and impact teachers are doing and the current economic hardship in the country.
He explained that looking at the duties of the teachers and the effort they are putting up amidst the current economic hardship the 20% of COLA is not valuable. Teachers must demand more than 20% of the Cost Of Living Allowance.
According to him, Ghanaian understand teachers are the most learned professionals in this country but are treated like slaves in the public sector. “No teacher is enjoying any allowance in this country,” he said. Those who don’t know anything in education services will quickly mention the Continuous Professional Allowance, meanwhile that peanuts are massaged before they are given to the teachers and the workshops they will attend alone are more than the Gh1200 which is not even reliable.
He further argues that most teachers retire in rented houses because of the poor conditions of service and some of them receive GH¢8000 as retirement benefits due to some cruel measures put in place.
He said teachers must demand more than just 20% of the Cost Of Living Allowance
