The Director General of the Ghana Education Service Prof Opoku Amankwa has officially disclosed that teachers must pay for every National Teaching Council (NTC) workshop that is organized for them because they take professional allowance every year.
Speaking on UTV last week, the Director General Prof. Amankwa explained that every teacher employed by the service both Professional and nonprofessional teachers takes a form of allowance called continuous professional development allowance which is meant to help them update their professional skills.
The Director General Prof Amankwa further noted that the various Teacher unions negotiated for the government to pay their member’s professional development allowance and since Government has agreed to pay there is no need to complain about the payment of workshops organized for teachers because they take an allowance for that.
Meanwhile, teachers have complained several times about NTC taking the opportunity of the professional development allowance to squeeze teachers of their small monthly salaries.
