After the launch of the one-teacher one-laptop initiative by the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and the three Teacher unions at St Mary’s senior high school, most teachers are worried about the payment modalities for these Teacher Mate (TM1) laptops.

Speaking at the launched yesterday, 3rd September 2021, the vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia indicated that the government is going to pay 70% of the cost of the laptop while the teacher pays 30% of the cost of the laptop and of which the laptop becomes the personal property of the Teacher.

Although the idea is good, the most worrying thing among Teachers now is how teacher unions and Ghana Education Service is going to implement the method of payment of this 30% of the cost of these laptops.

There have been several rumors going rounds on many social media platforms about how these payments are going to be done. But the fact remains that non has been confirmed yet. During the launched Teachers were expecting the actual cost of these laptops to be made public to everyone since there is nothing to hide about these laptops.

These laptops to is a new brand made in Ghana, so for now no one knows the actual cost of these laptops. The way the cost of these laptops is hidden from the Teachers, most Teachers are worried because these years’ base pay increment was nothing to ride home about, so most of them do not expect extra money to be deducted from their meager salaries increments.
