The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana has honoured the Chairperson of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Chapter of TEWU, Ms. Theresa Ackon, for her outstanding contribution to the Union with a Regional May Day award.
Ms. Theresa Ackon, also a member of the Governing Council of UEW, becomes the first-ever TEWU-UEW Chairperson to received such an award. She was honored on Saturday, 1st May 2021, at the Central Regional May Day celebration.
The ceremony, which took place at the Forecourt of the TUC Central Regional Secretariat in Abease, Cape Coast, was under the theme: “Economic Recovery in an era of a pandemic: The Role of Social Partners”.
Ms. Theresa Ackon was presented with a citation and a 43-Inch Lite Model LED television set. The citation reads “Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of TUC (Ghana) presents this regional May Day award to Sis. Theresa Ackon for your invaluable contribution to the Union in your capacity as the Chairperson, University of Education, Winneba Local Central Region”.
She stated in an interview with UEW Media Relations “in fact, I am very excited because this is the first time UEW has taken such an award and it is a great achievement to the entire University, especially to TEWU itself”.
She thanked the Management of UEW particularly the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang and the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq. for the massive support and encouragement they gave her to help achieve the feat. She, however, implored them to endeavour to regularise the appointment of some of the TEWU members particularly those who have served the University for more than ten years.
