Three teacher unions called for an immediate upgrading of teachers before April 2021 ends.

The Teacher Unions, the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, the National

Association of Graduate Teachers, NAGRAT, and the Coalition of Concerned teachers
CCT-GH, wish to bring to the attention of the Honourable Minister of Education and the

Ghana Education Service some developments affecting Teachers and education delivery in

the country.

  1. RESPONSIBILITY ALLOWANCE

Teachers who hold various responsibilities in our educational institutions and are entitled

to responsibility, allowance have had their allowances stopped when they were promoted to

another rank. Despite several efforts by the affected Teachers and the Teacher Unions, a

great number of these Teachers have not had their responsibility allowances restored.

  1. UPGRADING OF TEACHERS

Another problem that is demotivating and demoralizing Teachers is the failure of Ghana

Education Service to upgrade to the appropriate ranks Teachers who have both on their

own, financed themselves to acquire degrees, and those who have completed their study
leave with or without pay

CALL TO ACTION

We call on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to as a matter

of urgency, take steps to address these issues by the end of April, 2021, to ensure industrial

peace
