Upgrading of teachers delayed due to delay in securing financial clearance-GNAT

Upgrading of teachers has been an issue for discussion for three to four years now with those completing study leave in 2018/2019 still don’t know their stand as to when they will be put on their rightful ranks of the principal superintendent.

Most of these aggrieved teachers recently have threatened to demonstrate peacefully to drive home their demands. Because they said Ghana education services (GES) have cheated them by refusing to upgrade them after they completed their further studies with their approval letters from the regional to the district level.

The meeting that was held by National executives of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) at the headquarters in Accra on 6th March 2021 stated among their highlights of the issue discussed on that day that the upgrading of the Teachers from lower ranks of senior superintendent to principal superintendent has delayed due to delays in securing financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.

“Upgrading of teachers from the lower ranks up to principal superintendent has delayed due to delay in securing financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.” GNAT statement said.

This issue of upgrading teachers has been worrying and troubling teachers in the country which at times teachers have to leave classrooms and follow up to get themselves upgrade by the Ghana education services.

Some of these teachers have commented that public school Teachers have been sidelined by their employers and questioned whether it is a crime to be a basic school teacher in Ghana.
