An increase in the active case of the virus is something that everyone is secured and fear of his or her life. The most dangerous part is the increase in cases of the virus in our basic and senior high schools in the country. The Ghana medical association came out to call for the closure of schools by the government to reduce the spread of the virus.
But child right international (CRI) came out and against the closure of schools. The Ghana health services followed suit. They were of the view that the data available does not call us to closed down our schools and that the negative effects of the virus on our children is not serious hence government should not close down the school.
A section of teachers has also come out to campaign against the closure of schools our check on the street shows how some of the teachers mostly the private school teachers are ready to teach amid the pandemic.
Some private teachers in some parts of Accra said they are not ready for school to be close down again. They said their lives depends on the teaching and the second closure of schools will be disastrous to them.
Christianburg preparatory school at Ogbojo, near Adenta, a teacher, Mr. Ernest Kofi told GNA that he could not bear the difficult moment his family went through during the first closure of schools in March 2020.
He said that even school has resumed but he and his family is yet to come back to normal after the first closure and that they will not be able to cope with the second closure of schools.
Headteacher of little Rose primary and junior high school, Mrs. Theodora Dasitey said some pupils are ” almost back into illiteracy. They have forgotten almost everything”, and that when school is closed again our children’s lives are in danger
Madam Helena, a teacher at True vine school at Adenta said she has always been praying against school closures again with the reason that her main source of survival is Teaching.
Mr. Kofi repeated that most teachers are trying all they can to make sure that school environments are safe for children to attend and that government should rather support them and not close down the school.
Most of them said schools need strict enforcement of covid protocols and not the closure of schools which will cause a lot of damage to the private schools.
