The information available indicates that some Colleges of education in the country will be upgraded as stand-alone or autonomous universities. This announcement was made by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
According to the Minister of Education, plans are far advanced towards the upgrading of some public Colleges of Education into autonomous universities. The move is aimed at ensuring that the selected Colleges of Education help develop and train the Human Resources capital of the country.
When the new leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education in Accra to introduce the leaders of the Union to the minister. The minister stated that the decision has been on the table for a long time for consideration.
The minister explained that most of these colleges of Education have operated in the system for over a hundred years now and therefore need to be autonomous universities.
This initiative will look laudable to stakeholders involved but will stakeholders take time to consider the fate of the graduate of these institutions that will be upgraded from public Colleges of Education to Public Universities? Because the management of the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education is only concerned about the posting of graduates from public colleges of Education to the neglect of the graduate from public universities like UCC and UEW with Education backgrounds.
Although the minister has not disclosed to the new leaders of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT as and when those selected Colleges of Education will be fully upgraded to public universities. Educegh.com team will be on the grounds to update the general public on the current development about this issue.
