The leadership of the three teacher unions in the Volta Region said they have noticed some act by some of the teacher unions and district directors of Education in the region that is infringing the industrial action declared by the national union leaders.

Concerning the joint press conference organized by the unions in the Pre-Tertiary
Education sector and the subsequent declaration of the Strike Action on Monday, July 4, 2022,
Union leaders expect all teaching and non-teaching staff of GES in the Volta and Oti Regions to fully comply
by withdrawing all their services.

A joint monitoring team set up by the unions to monitor the strike reported the following that;
• Most TEWU staff in the Pre-Tertiary Institutions are still at post and carrying out their official duties.

• Some Heads of schools are coercing teachers to invigilate mock examinations
• Workshops are being organized by some District Directors and Heads of institutions.
• Sporting and reading festivals are being organized and supervised by teachers.

The Leadership of the unions in the regions would like to reiterate that, the strike action is still in
force and that all curriculum and curricula activities should cease with immediate effect until
further notice.

By this, the union leaders wish to remind all Stakeholders in Education to stop coercing teachers to undertake any activity during this period since it amounts to an infringement of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651).
